I was tagged by @the.fit.md to share 10 things I've learned since starting medical school. I've tagged some other first year medical students and I can't wait to hear about what they've learned! πŸ’• . 1 β€’ The human body is the most incredible, intricate creation I've ever seen. The more I learn about science, the stronger my faith becomes in the God who created me. 2 β€’ A strong support system means everything. I got this card from my mom and sister today reminding me how proud they are of me. This is what keeps me going. 3 β€’ When people say medical school is like trying to drink from a fire hydrant, they aren't exaggerating. 4 β€’ Having a balanced life is so important. I find my balance in God, friends, music, and family. 5 β€’ You will not study the same way as everyone else, and that's okay. It's easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing, but the best thing to do is focus on how you learn best. 6 β€’ The mitochondria is not just the powerhouse of the cell, it has a lot of other functions. 7 β€’ The people who donate their bodies to science are my biggest heroes. To make such a huge sacrifice for my medical education is something I don't take lightly. 8 β€’ I am capable of much more than I even knew. Since starting medical school, I have pushed my mind and body to new limits. 9 β€’ My classmates are some of the brightest and kindest people I've ever met. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such a supportive group of people. 10 β€’ There is nowhere I'd rather be. Medicine is my calling and medical school is the first step. Everything I do from now on should be done with my patients in mind. Knowing that learning this pre-clinical material will help me change someone's life one day reminds me that this journey is for something much greater than me. . If you recently started medical school or any other health-related professional school, I'd love to hear what you've learned! πŸ’•
Medical School - Where getting a new badge reel in the mail is a major highlight of the week! . What are some of the little things in life that make you smile? πŸ’•
Hey friends, long time no talk! πŸ’• I'm so sorry for being so inactive, but I appreciate you sticking through it with me. Medical school is challenging, rewarding, and very BUSY. Over the first two weeks, I have learned so much about myself, my stamina, my ability to push my body past what I thought it was capable of. It is amazing to look back only two weeks in and see tremendous growth. I can't even imagine how much I'll grow in four years. . While all of this is exciting, the adjustment to medical school is very difficult. If you are starting medical school soon or if you recently started, just know you are not alone. This is not easy. This does not come second-nature. We have to work for what we want. And that is natural. All the best things in life are products of hard work and dedication. Keep pushing through! πŸ’• . So tell me, how has your school year been so far? What has challenged you and made you step out of your comfort zone? πŸ‘‡πŸΌ . Side Note: If anyone has recommendations for affordable, appropriately fitting scrubs, I would love to hear them! πŸ™‹πŸ½
Already shared this on my personal account (sorry for those of you that follow both) but I just feel so amazed at the love, support, and generosity I felt on my first day of medical school today. This is just a great reminder of why it is so important to choose a medical school that truly aligns with your values. As important as it seems to go to a medical school that's highly ranked, has a well-known program, etc., I would argue that's it's equally, if not more, important to go to a school where you'll be happy. Because really, what's the point of spending four years feeling like you don't belong? . I'm so thankful God guided me to the right school. These fours years will be amazing. πŸ’•
How adorable is this sticker by @plans2getfit?! It is the perfect touch on my @simplifiedplanner! I can't wait to start using the daily pages of this beauty in 10 days! πŸ’• . Stay tuned for a blog post about medical school interviews! Coming soon!
This summer has been full of firsts. Yesterday, I went to the farmers market for the first time and Josh and I bought a bunch of delicious fruit and vegetables. Tonight we're making homemade sweet and sour chicken with this gorgeous pineapple! 🍍 . This morning, I did yoga for the first time outside by the water and it was so beautiful and peaceful. Yoga was never on my agenda before my surgery (along with so many other active things), but I'm loving this new freedom I have to be my best self. πŸ’• . Question: What is the plural form of fruit? Is it fruit or fruits? Comment πŸ‘‡πŸΌ and let me know because my mind says fruit but my heart says "fruits and vegetables".
My giveaway with @medlifemotive and @mdfinstruments is now closed! A huge thank you to everyone who entered! The final winner will be chosen and announced soon! Stay tuned! πŸ’•

Doctors rock, but doctors would be nothing without the amazing PAs, nurses, MAs, and other medical professionals that work so hard, oftentimes for much less credit than they deserve. Thank you to each and every medical professional for your dedication to being compassionate, kind, and selfless. πŸ’•
I got to spend the last few days exploring the happiest place on earth to celebrate my best friend's birthday! While this summer hasn't necessarily been the most productive, it has definitely been the most fulfilling. Having a flexible schedule has given me the chance to spend quality time with the people closest to me while I have time. I know medical school is going to be time consuming, and I know there will be quite a few birthdays and important occasions I'll have to miss, but I'm savoring the time I have now and squeezing as much love and laughter as I can into every moment. πŸ’• . I've also started meeting my classmates and I am so excited to be starting this adventure with them. All of my classmates are so sweet and genuine. I'm excited to be building friendships before we begin this long journey. I think already having established friendships will relieve some of the stress of the beginning of medical school. πŸ’• . Side Note: You have TWO DAYS LEFT to enter my stethoscope giveaway with @medlifemotive and @mdfinstruments! Go enter on my photo two posts back! Good luck! πŸ’•

Tonight I'm feeling very conflicted and confused. I absolutely love the medical Instagram community and all the support everyone gives each other. This picture from when I met @_dorothyfaye is a great example of the friendships I've been able to make because of this account. I love being able to mentor pre-med students and answer questions about my experiences. . But the cautionary part of me is very scared of the immense responsibility that comes with having a social media presence. I think a lot of my nervousness comes from not knowing how my medical school/future residency program will respond or how my classmates will feel. The last thing I want to do is jeopardize my medical education or my anonymity. I don't want to make any of my classmates uncomfortable, and if it came down to it, I would give this up if it meant stronger friendships with my classmates. Everyone seems very supportive, but only time will really tell. Today, these emotions are heightened seeing @doctor.alixandra have to leave Instagram. I'm very sad to see her go, but it also reinforces these feelings I've been having and I understand and fully support her decision. . For those of you with accounts dedicated to your medical journey (or if your personal account is similar), how do you feel? How has your school responded? Do you ever feel this way? Are you worried about residency programs having negative feelings about this? Please comment or message me, I want to hear the good and the bad so I know what I'm getting myself into. I love you guys. πŸ’•

Sometimes life calls for an afternoon with wine and cheese. πŸ·πŸ§€ . Josh just finished his first general surgery rotation and we haven't had much true quality time together since he started. It's been so nice to slow down and enjoy each other's company this weekend. Spending quality time with him helps me remember all the little things I adore about him. All I know is I'm one lucky girl. πŸ’• . Take some time today to appreciate your loved ones. πŸ’• . Side Note: How cute are these little trays we found that hold your wine glass? We love good yard sale finds!
My first breast reduction blog post is now up! This one was very personal and very tough to write. In this post, I discuss some of the difficulties I faced living with large breasts, what influenced my decision to have a breast reduction, and how I'm feeling now that I've hit the one month post-op milestone! I also answer a ton of questions that were sent to me by YOU! πŸ’• . Give it a read and feel free to share it. I love you all! πŸ’• . Link in my bio!
My first decoration on my new desk! I got this flask as a gift from the Chemistry department before I left USF, so it's a nice reminder of the people that helped me get to where I am today. πŸ’•
I need some advice. How do you deal with people - especially people who are/were close to you - that have no faith in the medical profession and do not support your career choice? This is something I've been struggling with for a while and I don't really know the best way to approach the situation. Have you experienced this before? How did you handle it? What emotions did you feel when it happened? . Thanks in advance for your responses! I love this community so much. πŸ’•
I created a new logo today for my blog and I'm so excited! What do you guys think? πŸ’•
